On the afternoon of October 13, a signing ceremony for the joint establishment of the Nansha Working Platform of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center was held in Nansha, Guangzhou. Two agreements were signed at the ceremony, marking a further upgrade of Nansha's integrated intellectual property (IP) service ecosystem.
Under the first agreement, the People's Government of Nansha District, Guangzhou, and the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center signed a cooperation framework agreement, formally launching the joint establishment of the Nansha Working Platform of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center, which will also serve as an IP Transfer and Commercialization Center. Under the second agreement, the Nansha District Administration for Market Regulation of Guangzhou and the Guangzhou Trademark Examination and Cooperation Center (Guangdong Intellectual Property Development and Service Center) signed an implementation agreement setting out the platform's development arrangements, service offerings, and implementation measures. These agreements will advance the initiative from a strategic framework to practical implementation.
The signing marks a significant expansion and enhancement of the existing service system of the Nansha Sub-center of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center (the “Nansha Sub-center”). Since its inauguration in 2023, the Nansha Sub-center has focused on the needs of regional innovation and development, carrying out key initiatives in expedited patent rights acquisition, coordinated IP protection, public IP services, and professional training and guidance.
To date, the Nansha Sub-center has assisted more than 200 innovative entities in the district with patent pre-examination registration and guided enterprises in submitting 1,138 patent applications for expedited pre-examination. As a result, the examination period for invention patent applications has been reduced from 22 months to three months, significantly accelerating the process of securing patent rights and facilitating the commercialization of innovative achievements.
In addition, the Nansha Sub-center has provided 15 patent micro-navigation analysis reports for key enterprises and prepared 50 reports and advisory documents, including a trademark development report for Nansha District, opinions on patent and trademark infringement, patent stability analysis reports, and patent early-warning analysis recommendations for enterprises. It has also organized 25 specialized training sessions. Its "Targeted Trademark Services and Business Matching" initiative was recognized as an outstanding case in the 2025 Intellectual Property Public Service Initiative for Supporting Enterprises.
These efforts have contributed to Nansha's high-quality development. Over the past three years, the district's number of invention patents per 10,000 residents has exceeded 100, while the value of financing secured through IP pledges has surpassed RMB 10 billion. The regional IP ecosystem continues to improve.
Building on this signing, the Nansha Working Platform of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center (IP Transfer and Commercialization Center) will focus on IP transfer and commercialization and integrate services across the entire IP lifecycle, encompassing creation, utilization, protection, management, and support services.
First, the platform will strengthen enterprise support and talent development. It will conduct regular visits to enterprises, universities, and research institutions in the district and prepare tailored IP diagnostic reports to address their specific needs and support innovation. It will also organize ongoing professional training to enhance practitioners’ capabilities and expand the region's IP talent pool.
Second, the platform will strengthen the matching of IP supply and demand. By coordinating with enterprises, universities, research institutions, and other innovation stakeholders in the district, it will accelerate the local deployment and commercialization of high-quality IP achievements in Nansha. These efforts will help bring high-value patents from laboratories to production lines and from patent certificates to market applications.
Third, the platform will improve integrated, end-to-end IP services. Building on its patent pre-examination consultation window, it will continue to provide one-stop services, including expedited patent pre-examination, trademark-related services, assistance with IP rights protection, and guidance on responding to overseas IP disputes.
Looking ahead, Nansha will use this joint initiative as an opportunity to further strengthen collaboration and advance implementation. By continuously improving its integrated IP service ecosystem, Nansha aims to help turn innovation and high-value patents into tangible economic benefits, injecting fresh momentum into high-quality regional development and the coordinated advancement of technological innovation and industrial development across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
