In order to promote the smooth implementation of the China-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement and further enrich the connotation of China-Costa Rica economic and trade cooperation, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica, Director of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, Tian Lipu, visited Costa Rica from May 22 to 25, 2010. On the 24th, Director Tian Lipu met with Federico Valerio, Director of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Colombia. The two sides exchanged opinions and views on intellectual property and other issues.
Director Tian briefly introduced the development history of China's intellectual property legal system and the functions of the State Intellectual Property Office, and put forward four suggestions on the content of cooperation between China and Colombia in the field of intellectual property. Director Fedrigo said that Costa Rica is very willing to carry out in-depth cooperation with China in the field of intellectual property, especially in talent training and database construction, the two sides have great potential for cooperation.
In the afternoon, Director Tian held talks with Dagberto Cibaja Morales, Director of the Registrar of the Ministry of Justice of Costa Rica. The two sides further discussed the ways and contents of cooperation in the field of intellectual property. The Chinese side listened to Colombia's introduction on the country's patent registration and copyright registration system in detail, and visited the work place of the Intellectual Property Department of the Ministry of Justice of Colombia. The two sides agreed to carry out substantive work in the near future, and strive to sign the "China-Colombia Intellectual Property Cooperation Framework Agreement" in the second half of this year.
On May 23, Li Changhua, the ambassador to Costa Rica, met and hosted a banquet with Director Tian Lipu and his party at the official residence. Lv Guoliang, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the State Intellectual Property Office, and Yu Bo, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Colombia, attended the above-mentioned activities.
